Materials
Foamtapes.net is proud to offer our foam tapes using a wide variety of
foam substrates and carriers to fit nearly any application. Below is a list
of our materials and their general properties and applications:
- Ether Foam
- Our ether foam is a low density (1.2 lbs./ft3) grey material
with excellent compression set recovery and very good thermal insulation
values (R4 / inch of thickness). Makes a good weatherstripping tape or light
& dust seal. Not recommended for applications involving gas or liquid or
UV exposure.
- Ester Foam
- We supply a low density (2.0 lbs./ft3) charcoal grey ester foam
with good flammability protection (UL 94 HF-1 rated), better UV resistance
than our ether foam and similar thermal insulation values (R4 / inch of thickness).
Makes a good light and dust seal or weatherstripping tape. Not recommended for applications
involving gas or liquid or prolonged direct UV exposure.
- PVC Foam
- Foamtapes.net PVC foam is available in two colors and densities, 7.0 #/ft3 in black and
8.0 #/ft3 in grey. PVC foam is closed cell, inherently fire retardant, has very good
UV resistance and compression set recovery. PVC foam makes an excellent gasketing or weatherstripping
tape and excels in outdoor applications where the seal is broken and re-established multiple times (i.e.
electrical enclosure seal).
- Neoprene Sponge
- Our neoprene sponge is an SCE-41 grade (soft) sponge, black in color. It is closed cell and offers
moderate compression recovery and good chemical resistance. Neoprene makes an excellent gasketing tape,
especially in applications where the seal remains intact for extended periods of time, and makes a good
weatherstripping tape as well. Not recommended for applications where the seal is repeatedly broken and
re-established.
- Polyethylene Foam
- Our closed cell polyethylene foam is available in white or black and varies in density by thickness
(1/32" thick: 6 #/ft3; 1/16" thick: 4#/ft3; > 1/16": 2#/ft3). Polyethylene
makes a very good low-cost, low-pressure gasket tape for applications that do not require significant compression
recovery or repeated sealing. It is excellent for use in mounting and glazing application. Although it is closed
cell and provides good thermal values, it is not recommended for weatherstripping applications due to it's
cold-flow nature and compression set proeprties.
- Glazing Tape
- Our glazing tape is manufactured from a cross-linked closed cell polyethylene foam with a specially
formulated acrylic adhesive on both sides. This adhesive is designed to be effective in a broad temperature
range and is more agressive than traditional acrylic compounds. Although specifically engineered to by used
in window glazing, our Glazing Tape is an excellent choice for more demanding mounting applications where
temperature ranges are larger or weight loads are higher. Glazing tapes have their adhesive applied during the
cure cycle to greatly improve the bond strength between the adhesive and the foam carrier.
- Mounting Tape
- Our mounting tape is a cross-linked closed cell polyethylene foam with an agressive rubber based adhesive
on both sides. Works great for bonding where one or both surfaces are textured. Mounting tapes have their adhesive applied during the
cure cycle to greatly improve the bond strength between the adhesive and the foam carrier.
